About the School:

The School of Community Health Sciences originated from the Community Health Training School which was run by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation. By the University’s Act, the school was transferred from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) to Njala University in 2005. Thereafter, Njala changed the name to Community Health Sciences, as there was an intention to introduce many health programmes, and with the ultimate aim of starting a medical school as stipulated in the Act. The school was founded in two earlier institutions: The School of Hygiene and the Paramedical School, where environmental health officers (EHOs) and community health officers (CHOs) were trained. The above two schools are now departments: the Department of Environmental Health Sciences and the Department of Community Health and Clinical Studies, respectively.
