Effects of Cycocel on Crop Plants in Sierra Leone I. Groundnut (Arachis hypogea)
(Cambridge University Press, 1975-07-01) Gupta, Deepak Kumar
SUMMARY The response of groundnut plants to CCC was investigated by applying concentrations of 0, 500, 1000 and 1500 ppm three times as a foliar spray. CCC at 500 ppm gave more kernels, and heavier yields of pods, kernels and oil, than 1000 or 1500 ppm or the control treatment. Application of CCC resulted in a greater percentage of shell and of moisture in the whole pod than in the control.

Effects of Cycocel on Crop Plants in Sierra Leone II. Cassava (Manihot Esculenta)
(Cambridge University Press, 1976-10-01) Gupta, Deepak Kumar
SUMMARY The response of cassava to CCC was investigated by applying concentrations of 0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 ppm twice or four times as a foliar spray, which resulted in a significantly greater tuber yield than the control with most marked effects at the final harvest. CCC at 1500 ppm, applied four times at various growth stages, gave the best increase in tuber yield. Application of CCC tended to cause greater RGR and dry matter content (percentage) of tubers.

Effects of Cycocel on Lodging and Grain Yield of Upland and Swamp Rice in Sierra Leone
(Cambridge University Press, 1971-04-01) Gupta, Deepak Kumar
SUMMARY In upland rice, seed soaked in CCC for 24 hours before sowing or sprayed with CCC 10, 21, 42 and 63 days after sowing, showed severe lodging. Effects of CCC on the number of paniclebearing tillers, number of good grains in 1000 grains, weight of 100 good grains and grain yield were not significant. On the other hand CCC prevented lodging in swamp rice, with the lowest percentage when foliar spray was given 21 days after transplanting. CCC failed to increase the number of panicle-bearing tillers and grain yield in swamp rice.

Effects of Nitrogen Application on Nitrogen Content of Grains of Swamp Rice in Sierra Leone
(Cambridge University Press, 1972-04-01) Gupta, Deepak Kumar
SUMMARY The total N uptake, crude protein content, and recovery of N in rice grains varied with varieties. Increased levels of N application gave increases in total N uptake and crude protein content in the grains, though recovery of N in the grains decreased with increased levels of nitrogen application. Irrespective of varieties and levels of application, three split dressings of nitrogenous fertilizer gave greater total N uptake, crude protein content, and recovery of N in the rice grains than where all the N was applied at the time of transplanting of seedlings.
